Food Serviceware: Product Developments to Zero Waste Models
ADVANCES IN INJECTION MOLDING PLA FOR HIGH HEAT FOODSERVICE APPLICATIONS
Molding PLA at or below room-temperature yields a part with very low crystallinity. As a result of the high amorphous-content in the polymer and a glass transition temperature of 55°C, the part softens above 55°C and is one of the biggest drawbacks of PLA, especially in high-heat foodservice applications such as single-use cutlery. This drawback can be overcome by crystallizing the PLA.
